Directional Lines!

The third graders started the fourth quarter off by talking about directional lines. We talked about horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. Students created a group of shapes, then added different directions of lines in all their shapes and also in the background. We then used tempera paint to paint the line patterns and black outlines!





Line Sharks!

The first graders made these adorable line shark scenes! We cut our sharks out of gray paper and used a zig zag line to make the pointy teeth! Students then drew a background scene using permanent markers and crayons. Can you spot all the different kinds of lines we used??

Jasper Johns Number Paintings

The second graders took another look at Jasper Johns and his number paintings! We created our own number paintings with plenty of texture using crayons and watercolor paint!



6th grade Car Prints

The 6th graders at Oakdale learned about the technique of printmaking for this lesson. Students were asked to use a car as their subject matter to create their print!

Line Paintings

The first graders and I talked about the different directions of lines in this lesson(vertical, horizontal, diagonal). We used crayon to draw different kinds of lines in different directions. We then used watercolor to paint in between the lines to create an abstract masterpiece!





Ice Cream Mountain!

This was our last project of our "Overlapping" unit for the kindergarteners. Students cut out a bowl from construction paper and then drew our overlapping scoops of ice cream with black crayon. We topped our ice cream mountain off with hot fudge and a sparkly cherry!

Jasper Johns Target Paintings

The second graders and took a look at the artist Jasper Johns today! We talked about how he chose to paint things that are recognizable symbols like the American flag, numbers and targets. We also talked about the texture that was found in his paintings. Students crumpled up a magazine page to create real texture on their painting surface. Then using a sharpie, students drew the target symbol and used tempera paint to add color!



Celebrating Dr. Suess!

The kindergartners and I took some time to recognize one of our favorite author's birthday, Dr. Suess!! We drew our own picture of Dr. Suess's Cat in the Hat using black markers and red crayons!







Radial Symmetry Prints

The sixth graders have been studying balance in art. Students created their own radial symmetry design and we printed them with the block printing technique using foam plates!





Shoe Still Life Drawings!

The fourth graders made these amazing contour line drawings of their own shoe! We talked about what a still life drawing is as well as contour line drawing! Students drew their show using a marker then chose a color to paint the background making the shoe stand out (emphasis)!





Paul Klee Senecio Portraits

The second graders and I looked at Paul Klee's Senecio. We talked about his used of texture and color in his painting. We used a roller to roll orange paint on our papers then used chalk to add more texture!







Arlo Needs Glasses!

In this lesson the second graders and I looked at the book "Arlo Needs Glasses". We made our own Arlo portraits focusing on texture! The dogs were drawn with black oil pastel and then we used watercolor paint to add color. Once Arlo was finished we gave him some glasses!





Cows in the foreground!

To finish out our unit on landscapes, the third grade made these darling "cowscapes"! We put a cow in the foreground and designed the landscape behind them!



Overlapping ABC's!

Kindergartners have been learning about overlapping objects in art. In this project we also talked about the word "abstract" and what it means! Students used a marker to make their overlapping letters and then colored in the shapes that the letters created!
