Overlapping Lightbulbs

In this project the third graders looked at different shapes that lightbulbs can be.  The used a piece of card-stock paper to create 3 different lightbulb shapes.  They traced their templates overlapping each bulb with another.  The students outlined their bulbs with sharpie marker then used scentsy markers to color them in using the primary colors.  

Patterned Turkey!

Kindergartners took some time to draw a beautiful patterned turkey before Thanksgiving!

Penguin Landscape

First graders just finished up learning about the different grounds in a landscape (foreground, middle ground, background).  In this project the 1st graders were instructed to make the penguins in the foreground large, the penguins in the middle ground medium, and the penguins in the background small.  And to top it off, gold glitter stars in the sky :)

Straw Painting

The 6th graders and I experimented with straw painting.  This technique allows you to achieve lines and texture that you can't get using a paint brush.  Students made a "bead" of watercolor paint on their paper with their paintbrush and then they used the straw to blow the paint along the paper.

Alma Thomas Mosaics

The second graders took a look at the mosaic artist Alma Thomas.  The students used tiny square pieces of construction paper to create concentric circle mosaics.

Sandpaper Prints

The 6th graders spent a lot of time learning about texture.  One of the final projects we did was sandpaper prints.  Students used crayons to color their design onto a piece of sandpaper then I ironed their sandpaper template on a piece of paper. Viola!

Piet Mondrian Lines

First graders have been learning about lines! We looked at Piet Mondrian and his use of the primary colors. Student used a black oil pastel to make a continuous line. Students then used watercolor paints to paint in the squares.
