Warm/Cool Abstracts

The second graders got to try their hand out in a simple form of printmaking.  Students used a cut up piece of corrugated cardboard and stamped lines to create an abstract design.  Once the paint was dried students used either warm or cool oil pastels to color their designs in.

Movement Figure Studies

The fifth graders have been studying movement in art.  In this project I brought my old figure study doll from college and the students had a chance to see the doll positioned in different movement poses.  The 5th graders composed their own collage of the drawing doll to show movement.

Lego Man Heads!

The third graders are hard at work studying form in art.  In this project students used the lego man head to show form.  Students colored the head yellow and shaded with black crayon to show dimension.  The students then painted on their faces with acrylic paint!

Positive and Negative Space Grids

The 4th graders spent a lot of time learning about positive and negative space in art!  The students used 8 3inx3in squares to cut out positive and negative images to compose grids.

Symmetrical Owls

The second graders have been focusing on symmetry.  The students made these symmetrical owls with oil pastels.

Why is Blue Dog Blue?

The 6th graders took a look at George Rodrigue's Blue Dog paintings.  We learned that Blue Dog was actually based off of a ghost dog.  We also talked about how Blue Dog  shows symmetrical balance.  The students mixed it up a bit and painted their own color dog.

Peeking Polar Bears

Kindergartners used oil pastels and tempera paint to create these "peeking" polar bears!
