The fourth graders took a look at the artist Peter Diem and his cow series! We talked about how the cows were portrayed in an abstract style and the bold bright colors he used. The students used oil pastels and construction paper crayons to create the colorful cows!

Mouse Paint!
In this lesson the first graders and I read the book Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh. We learned which of the primary colors we use to make secondary colors! The students made 6 mice and we used watercolor colored pencils to do out color mixing! Next we laid some kitchen tile floor under our mice!

Line Collages
The third graders have been continuing to study line. This quarter we are really focusing on using the correct vocabulary for line direction. Instead of saying a "sideways line" we have learned to say horizontal. The students were given a piece of 6x12 inch paper and divided it into three equal boxes. In each box they were to show me a directional design using construction paper. We call it painting with scissors!
Tertiary Line Paintings
The fourth graders have been studying the color wheel so far this quarter! They were introduced to tertiary colors (primary + secondary) for example, yellow-orange. In this project students were given 2 of the primary colors and mixed their own tertiary colors and painted lines. Once it was dry we added patterns and texture to the lines!
Primary Farm Paintings
This quarter the kindergarteners are learning about primary colors! In this project we drew a farm complete with a wheat field and red barn! The students used watercolor paint to add the primary colors to their landscape!

Directional Lines!
The third graders started the fourth quarter off by talking about directional lines. We talked about horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. Students created a group of shapes, then added different directions of lines in all their shapes and also in the background. We then used tempera paint to paint the line patterns and black outlines!
Line Sharks!
The first graders made these adorable line shark scenes! We cut our sharks out of gray paper and used a zig zag line to make the pointy teeth! Students then drew a background scene using permanent markers and crayons. Can you spot all the different kinds of lines we used??
